Climbing and eco activism. Sofie is of the Alex Megos generation; they have trained together for competitions and share their enthusiasm for environmental campaigns and initiatives. The generation after Stefan Glovacz, Wolfgang Güllich, and Kurt Albert is taking a new path in which the development of climbing and some practices are even questioned: we often travel alone in a car to the chosen climbing crag, and are sometimes so focused on climbing that we get unaware of surrounding nature and local communities. Travelling by train, bus, or with a bike & backpack carrying all the gear on our back, changes this perspective. Especially collectively, we can have a huge positive impact and create new approaches. www.ecopoint-frankenjura.deThe life of Sofie Paulus (28) has been deeply connected to nature from a very young age, and this has shaped her path today, which combines outdoor climbing with conservation efforts. She studied Earth Sciences and is currently pursuing a PhD in Sport Ecology. With various projects such as Ecopoint, we try to empower climbers, exchange, inspire, and create an aware and nature-friendly community of outdoor sports people.
"One of my deepest hopes is that we can come together to create a peaceful, healthy, and climate-just planet for all. In a world brimming with opportunities, contradictions, and distractions, staying focused and committed to environmental causes is no easy task — but it's one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself and the planet."
