The documentary, by Peter Mortimer and Nick Rosen, closely follows the daring solo ascents of Canadian climber Marc-André LeClercq in the hostile conditions of Patagonia. It is a premiere for Bulgaria and for the first time lovers of strong sensations will be able to watch it on the big screen.
While climbing is gaining in popularity and mainstream media events are becoming an indispensable part of its overall culture, some climbers prefer to stay out of the spotlight. Marc-André Leclerc, a 23-year-old free climber, is one of those rare sporting icons who have achieved much on the solo scene and become a role model to those who are just embarking on this risky endeavor. Although the Canadian has recorded some of the boldest solo climbs in history in his career, he continues to live away from the mundane, eschewing cutting-edge technology including cars and smartphones.
Solo climbing experts think Mark takes too many risks, and mountaineering legends can't hide their admiration for his raw talent.
"The Mountaineer follows closely his most extreme and life-changing expedition, the one to Patagonia. In the documentary you will see the love of heights of one of the best solo climbers of our time, presented in a magnificent way by Peter Mortimer.
