"Challenge Days have developed a real 'addiction' to the work of Alistair Lee. As a producer and cinematographer, Alistair has built a remarkably successful career over the last 20 years, taking part in expeditions to some of the most inaccessible places on the planet such as the Baffin Islands, the jungles of Venezuela, and Antarctica - Greenland. But the key to the success of his films, studded with more than 170 film awards, is rooted in a combination of cinematographic perfectionism and a command of the entire arsenal of modern filmmaking techniques and film stories, in creating cinema with respect for human achievement set against the great epic canvas of the Nature of the Mountains.
For Alistair, the cinema he believes in is an exploration not only of the wildest and most remote corners of the Earth, but also of the human condition. An insight into the complex psychology of the paradox of modern man's desire to challenge himself in the arena of Nature. The quest is not only for the top, but in search of purpose and meaning in an over-satisfied society constantly seeking safety and comfort.
The 19 Days of Challenge 2024 offers us two whole encounters with Alistair Lee - that true legislator in global and British documentary adventure cinema.
Within the free programme on 4 December we will see the screen masterpiece "Ulvetanna - the last big climb" (2014), and on December 5, in the main program, is the premiere of "BlockHeads" (2016), about the golden years of British bouldering, produced by his company BritRock Films. In 2013, for his outstanding achievements, Alistair received at the Trento Film Festival one of the greatest recognitions in the film industry – International Mountain Film Alliance Grand Prize.
