In 2023, "Days of Challenges" will present the BSPB's project for the purchase of land in the Sakar Mountains, where several species threatened by human activity can be homed and preserved - the Saker Falcon, Imperial Eagle and Saker Falcon, whose natural habitats - grasslands - are being massively converted into farmland, from which these species have no choice but to escape.
Sakar Mountain is one of the most suitable places where most of the Imperial Eagles in Bulgaria currently nest. Over the past years, with donations and European aid, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds has already purchased plots of land in Sakar, where pasture farming is maintained, artificial nests for raptors are built and colonies of Arctic Eagles are repopulated.
The aim is to increase the "possessions" of the Imperial Eagle, Saker Falcon and Saker Falcon in Sakar. The price of the land there shows that if we raise 100,000 leva together, we can secure nearly 100 more acres for these three species. Every one lev donated roughly equals on average one more square meter of land under protection!
