This September, two brave Bulgarian surfers took on a unique challenge. Iliyana Stoilova and Ioan Kolev, known from Akasha surf school, surfed the distance from Durankulak to Rezovo. The trip, a kind of sea version of the route “Kom - Emine”, was in support of an environmental cause - “Black Sea, free of plastic”. In total about 300 km between the northernmost and the southernmost point of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast they covered in 2 and a half days, two or an average of about 8 and a half hours a day on the water.
The achievement required tremendous physical strength, but more important was the conceptual mission - the goal was to draw public attention to plastics as a pollutant, the protection of the sea and water in general.
Iliana and John were accompanied by a motor boat, on which two biologists took samples from the water and observed the marine inhabitants. Dolphins proved to be great friends of the venture - they often accompanied the travelers.
What has it cost them to cope and what lies ahead? They will tell us at the Days.
